Last weekend, the Royal Sailing Club of Valencia hosted the first autonomous region’s test for the Optimist class of the 2005-2006 season, with 160 vessels enrolled in all. Saturday dawned cloudy with no wind, and the competitors had to wait until 15'00 hours for the starting signal for the first test. Three tests were held for Class A and two tests for Class B, with light winds that did not exceed 7 knots. Sunday was sunny and the wind was stronger, reaching up to 12 knots. Two tests were held for Classes A and B. The winners were Elia Borrego from the Sailing Club of Jávea in Optimist A, and Burzio Davide from the Sailing Club of Dénia in Optimist B. Trophies were awarded at 17´30 hours on Sunday, and the ceremony was attended by Manuel Casanova (president of the Royal Sailing Club of Valencia), José Martínez (president of the Sailing Federation of the Autonomous Region of Valencia), Carmen Grima (representative of Sailing for Children of the Royal Sailing Club of Valencia), Rafael Chirivella (captain of the Valencia Optimist fleet), Pedro Quiroga (Technical Sports Manager of the Royal Sailing Club of Valencia), and Vicente Más Ivars (founder of the first sailing school of the Royal Sailing Club of Valencia). Once again, the Royal Sailing Club of Valencia has demonstrated its commitment to sailing, and its ability to organize sporting events of such a high level. |
