08/05 - Águeda Suria and Marta Martínez obtain 18th position in the 420 World Championship held in Brest

Our most renowned yachtswomen, Águeda Suria and Marta Martínez, finished the 2005 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 420 LADIES in 18th place. It is the first time a Spanish crew has achieved such a high position. After their victory in the women’s category of the Spanish Cup, Águeda and Marta combined their studies with long training hours, and once the examination period had come to an end, they enthusiastically trained every day for the world championship. But the world championship has not been easy for them: they have sailed with currents, medium strength winds, light winds and cold spells. Their performance has improved gradually throughout the championship, despite disqualifications and whistle blowing from the jury.

Following the world championship, Águeda and Marta have competed in the 2005 Spanish Championship in Gran Canarias with two other crews from the Royal Sailing Club of Valencia, formed by Rocío Botella-Celia Botella and Roberto Soler-Israel Yuste. They came second in the women’s category of this championship, and 11th in the general classification. The girls are in very high spirits and hope to improve their personal best.

The 2006 World Championship 420 will be held in Gran Canarias: a date for Suria and Martínez.
